Polem composite silo for starch storage in Lithuania

A Polem silo type SKS 7/30/80 was delivered from Lemmer via SRP-Europe to a customer in Lithuania. The silo is used for storing dry starch and is designed for a bulk density of 700 kg/m³. Filling takes place centrally via the roof.

Why composite for starch storage

Composite offers clear advantages for the storage of dry products such as starch. The material is immune to corrosion and retains its strength under varying conditions. The seamless, mirror-smooth inner wall ensures that product residues are hardly left behind. This makes cleaning easier and reduces the risk of contamination.

In addition, composite has low thermal conductivity. This keeps the temperature in the silo stable and limits condensation. These properties give composite a long service life and low maintenance requirements.

Flow and outflow

Powders such as starch can be susceptible to bridging and variable outflow. The correct hopper angle and a smooth inner wall help to prevent this. Thanks to the design freedom offered by composite materials, the hopper and cylinder can be optimally tailored to the product, ensuring reliable and uniform outflow.

Collaboration with SRP-Europe

SRP-Europe supplies equipment to the paper and cardboard industry. For this project, SRP delivered the Polem silo to their customer in Lithuania. The customer was satisfied with the quality of the silo, the preparation, and the appearance. The craftsmanship from Lemmer was explicitly appreciated.

Composite compared to traditional materials

Steel can corrode and concrete is porous. Composite offers an alternative without these disadvantages. The material is light, strong, and thermally insulating. The inner wall is smooth and easy to clean. Polem produces silos with a capacity of up to 1,500 m³ and diameters of up to 9 meters. The silos are produced seamlessly and in one piece, ready for installation.

International reach

Polem has been supplying composite silos to a wide range of markets within and outside Europe since 1972. Collaboration with system integrators makes it possible to incorporate silos into larger process installations. This approach supports customers in sectors such as food, feed, industry, and paper.

Service and inspections

Polem offers various forms of service to ensure long-term performance. These include one-off and periodic inspections, wall thickness measurements, hardness measurements, and advice on maintenance or repairs. This keeps the silo in optimal condition and maintains the reliability of your process.

Reliable and hygienic composite silo solution for stable starch storage and consistent product flow in the paper and pulp industry

The Polem composite silo in Lithuania demonstrates what is possible with a combination of craftsmanship, material technology, and collaboration. Starch storage requires stability, hygiene, and reliable outflow. Composite provides the right basis for this. Thanks to the collaboration with SRP-Europe, the customer could count on a sustainable and high-quality storage solution.

The right flow since 1972.
