The new constructions project of silos and tanks manufacturer Polem is ‘a lot of work’, says Michiel Evers, Business Manager of Polem. It’s a big task, especially because it has to be done next to the normal day-to-day-work of our company.
The project takes that much time that Evers decided to hand over some of his normal tasks to others. Now he can focus better on the project, as a member of the specially formed team. “At a company like Polem were people work with a positive drive it is nice to work a lot, to be appreciated.”

The Business Manager enjoys working for the Dutch company. “The beautifull thing about Polem is that everything is possible, or at least a lot. When you dare to do something a lot of things are possible. The atmosphere in the company is good, almost like a family. Because we have an organisation with flexible people, flexible thinking management, a lot of things are possible and when necessary quick to realise.” The huge fire that brought 6 out of 7 production halls into ashes on February the 8th of 2011 was a big shock to everyone and it took a lot of work – and thinking – to make a plan, to work it out and also realize the targets of the day-to-day production.
“We pretty soon formed a project team, because you can’t deliberate with every employee. In the team came Production Managers Piet Tilma and Louw Yntema, myself, and director Wolter de Lange, coordinator Oene Wassenaar from building company Cornel and a representative of main constructor BAM Utiliteitsbouw.” Michiel Evers’ responsibility in the project are the drawings and the engineering. “Architect Alynia is responsible for the outer shell, everything inside the production halls is our work.”
Speeding up the building process where possible Because the current situation with two temporary production halls outside of it’s own terrain, Polem wants to speed up the building process where possible without making concessions to the quality. “Because of that we do things that we normally never do, but with an open mind you can learn and do a lot. For me that dynamic part of the building process makes it a nice challenge and I like challenges. Of course, at times when we speed up the process by doing things ourselves, we make sure that we have a professional supervisor looking over our shoulder.” That’s why the huge project will certainly be ready by the 21st of February 2012.
When the project will be completed and the new and bigger production halls are ready, what will the next agenda points for Evers? “At Polem there is always work to do, certainly when our new and better factory will be ready. Bigger productions halls mean more work, more silos and tanks to be made. I expect that I will definitely not get bored in 2012.”
