In the project of the new constructions for Polem, there is a special task for building coordinator Oene Wassenaar. Wassenaar is in his normal day-to-day-life co-director of building company Cornel from the town of Joure. In that rol he is a competitor of main-contractor BAM Utiliteitsbouw, but in the project of new constructions for Polem Wassenaar works constructively together.
Wassenaar is a perfect link between contractor BAM and Polem. “I separate possible conflicting interests for the full hundred percent”, says Wassenaar. He worked from 1985 till 1992 for silos and tanks expert Polem. That’s why he knows the way Polem thinks and works and the way a building company like BAM thinks and works. Wassenaar: “Such a building coördinator is a must for every big project.”
In September 2011 the new constructions started after the drawings were ready and the permits also. “When I came into the project the ‘train’ that started in February was already moving full speed ahead. I started working one day every week on this project, mainly in our weekly meeting.”

Wassenaar admires the way BAM set up the building process. “For two days BAM and all the subcontractors got together and made a schedule that was suitable for all companies, a so called lean method. “The way they did it created a good atmosphere, everyone got to know each other, and created a commitment towards one and other”, says Oene Wassenaar.
The co-operation is one of the things that makes the project interesting for Wassenaar. The coordinator likes to work in an environment were people work together in an as pleasant as possible atmosphere, with mutual respect. “Polem is a sympathetic company where people work with a broad interest and a drive to realise the things they want.”
Oene Wassenaar is also such a person. “The people of Polem have a no-nonsense mentality and are doers instead of dreamers. Whenever there is a problem everyone tries to find a solution with respect and faith in each others knowledge.”
The main task for building coordinator Oene Wassenaar is to check if everything is working according to the schedule. “To the smallest dot or comma, everything has to be checked.” Polem-director Wolter de Lange is glad that his company found someone like Oene Wassenaar to coordinate the making of the new constructions after the huge fire of February 8th 2011 in with six out of seven production halls were burned to the ground. Oene Wassenaar his quality is that he is very discreet and also an open and positive thinking person is. We have a meeting every Wednesday and with him on our side – and when everyone keeps their promises – it’s a party to get such a big project realised.”
